This is the highlights of the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2023 final. This is Lavanya Lakshminarayanan and I’ll be taking you through the important moments of the summit clash between India and Bangladesh.
FINAL SCORE: Bangladesh 96/10 in 19.2 overs; Target: 128; INDIA WINS EMERGING TEAMS ASIA CUP WITH 31-RUN WIN OVER BANGLADESH
With rains washing out almost half the tournament, there’s a lot that was left wanting in this tournament. India played just one group stage match and made it to the final on the basis of that result. However, in the summit clash, Shweta Sehrawat’s girls barely looked rattled as they kept calm and added another piece of silverware to the junior team’s cabinet. After an U19 World triumph a few months ago, this is the set up’s second trophy. A game to remember for the Women in Blue.

BAN A 96 all out - Kanika Ahuja takes a diving catch that looked so hard to complete and Titas Sadhu has cleaned up the Bangladesh line-up to help India win the Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
No fifer for Shreyanka. But she finishes her campaign here with nine wickets in two games.
BAN A 88/9 (18 overs): Fourth wicket for Shreyanka! She takes out Marufa Akter with Parshavi Chopra stepping in to complete the catch. Shreyanka has a chance to get a fifer and close the match for India. Shreyanka has a fifer already in this tournament, in the only other game India could complete, vs Hong Kong. Check out the report here.
BANGLADESH NEEDS 43 RUNS IN THE LAST THREE OVERS.
BAN A 84/8 (17 overs): Kanika Ahuja gets her second wicket as Sultana Khatun walks back. Writing’s on the wall for Bangladesh?
BAN A: 72/7 (14 overs) Shreyanka Patil was denied a third wicket early on in this over when the third umpire ruled a stumping appeal in Bangladesh’s favour but she more than made up for it by getting Rabeya Khan lbw.
11:45am IST: Covers are coming off at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Road ground. Thankfully, no loss in game time. There’s been a break in momentum. Who will it benefit?
11:37am IST: Rain stops play. There is sunshine in Hong Kong. It seems to be a passing shower, nevertheless, players have gone off and the covers are coming on. Bangladesh will hope and pray for a full game today to give themselves a chance in this final.
BAN A: 56/6 (12 overs) Mannat Kashyap has her third with Shorna Akter holing out to Soumya Tiwari. India is inching closer to a famous win here.
BAN A 51/5 (10 overs): Kanika Ahuja has her first wicket and it’s the dangerous Sobhana Mostary. Shreyanka Patil takes a simple catch and aggressive celebrations are on as India has got the half the job done here in Hong Kong. Mostary was starting to find the middle of the bat, with a 22-ball 16, but she will have to watch the rest of the game from the dugout.
BAN A: 37/4 (8 overs): Brilliant over from Shreyanka Patil as she concedes just the one run but also removes Murshida Khatun with some help from Uma Chetry behind the stumps. Khatun is Bangladesh’s top scorer in the tournament. A big scalp for India.
BAN A: 29/3 (6 overs) You can’t keep Shreyanka Patil away from the action. Gets a wicket in her very first over of the day, removing Lata Mondal for just four runs. Bangladesh is faltering in this chase and will need to band together and find partnerships.
BAN A: 23/2 (4 overs) Mannat has her second wicket as she packs up the openers. Shathi Rani falls for a 11-ball 13. Bangladesh under some pressure now.
BAN A: 12/1 (2 overs) Mannat Kashyap gives India the breakthrough! The spinner was struggling to find her lengths early on in the over and a few misfields put her under pressure but Mannat knocks off Dilara Akter’s stumps to peg things back.
A tournament marred by weather
The inaugural edition of the ACC Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup was hindered throughout by rain. Of the 17 fixtures (including the final), only six games could get results, with all others being washed out. There were over four amber alerts over Hong Kong during the course of the tournament which came in the way of a full-fledged tournament being held.
I'm 31 and have lived in Hong Kong all my life. Never seen 4 torrential amber rainstorms in as many days. The washed-out games are frustrating but this is unprecedented rain
Anyway, the forecast is good for Monday & Wednesday. I expect to get tanned 😎🌞#EmergingAsiaCup#SPF100 — Jay Dansinghani ðŸ (@JayDansinghani) June 17, 2023
The weather meant India played just one game in the run-up to the final - its opener against Hong Kong.

FIRST INNINGS RECAP: Kanika Ahuja and Vrinda Dinesh helped India to a competitive 127/7 in 20 overs. India lost wickets in intervals but the batters ensured small partnerships were built throughout the innings to not let the innings slip away into Bangladesh’s control. Nahida Akter and Sultana Khatun were the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh picking two wickets each. The surface has looked increasingly good to bat on, and so Bangladesh will fancy its chance in this chase.
