Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has named the top four teams he believes will make it to the semi-finals of the ICC World Cup 2023. The highly anticipated tournament is set to commence on October 5, 2023, with defending champions England facing New Zealand at Narendra Modi Stadium.
Sehwag chose India, Pakistan, Australia, and England as his picks for the semi-finalists. He considers England, the current titleholders, as the favorites to win the tournament, while India, known for their strong performance in familiar conditions, also has a good chance of claiming their third World Cup victory according to Sehwag.
During the launch event for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 schedule, Sehwag expressed his belief that just as the Indian team played with great determination in the 2011 World Cup for Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma’s team will have a similar emotional drive to win the tournament for Virat Kohli.
Sehwag also highlighted the immense significance of the India-Pakistan match, stating that both teams will be under immense pressure. He emphasized the importance of handling pressure effectively, suggesting that the team that copes better with the high-stakes situation will emerge victorious.
Comparing India and Pakistan’s approach to pressure, Sehwag acknowledged that India have displayed better composure in recent years, which has contributed to their success against Pakistan. He also acknowledged the intense emotions surrounding matches between the two countries and stressed the significance of managing those emotions to come on top.
