After CSK's win, MS Dhoni hints at making a comeback in the IPL next year.
The Chennai Super Kings are IPL champions for the record-equaling fifth time. After a forgetful season last year when they finished second last, MS Dhoni-led side staged a stunning comeback and beat defending champions Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the rain-hit final, which was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday (May 29). In front of a jam-packed crowd, Jadeja smashed a six on the penultimate ball of the match, which was bowled by Mohit Sharma, and then finished the game with a four on the last delivery to seal a memorable win for the Men in Yellow.
CSK was asked to chase down 170 runs in 15 overs after GT posted a total of 214 runs on the board for the loss of four wickets. And thanks to the contributions of the majority of the players, CSK managed to seal the deal. In what was expected to be his last ever IPL match, fans were hoping to see another Dhoni show, but the 41-year-old got out for a golden duck. But, in the post-match presentation after CSK’s title win, he delighted the fans by confirming that even though it’s the best time for him to retire now after winning the title, he is looking to make a comeback next year and play at least one more season.
Speaking to Harsha Bhogle after CSK's fifth IPL title win, he said, "Circumstantially, if you see, this is the best time for me to announce my retirement. But the amount of love and affection that I have been shown, wherever I have been this year, I think, the easy thing for me to say would be, 'Thank you so much,' but the tough thing for me is to work hard for another nine months and come back and play at least one more season of the IPL," Dhoni said.

"But a lot depends on the body. I have 6-7 months to decide, and I think you know it’s something that will be more like a gift from my side. It’s not easy for me, but that’s a gift. The way they have shown love and affection, I think that’s something I need to do for them," he added.
Sunday’s final between CSK and GT was Dhoni’s 250th match in the IPL, and with five IPL titles to his name now, he has become the most successful player in CSK’s history.
