Rohit Sharma ’s Mumbai Indians crushed the Lucknow Super Giants by 81 runs in the Eliminator clash of IPL 2023 on Wednesday (May 24), which took place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The five-time champions posted a total of 182 runs on the board for the loss of eight wickets after winning the toss and then dismissed the Krunal Pandya-led side for just 101 in return in 16.3 overs.
For the record champions of the IPL, uncapped pacer Akash Madhwal picked up five wickets for just five runs in 3.3 overs. It was due to his magic spell that MI managed to finally end the losing run of three matches against LSG and take a giant step towards setting up another Clasico final.
Madhwal, who made his IPL debut this year, ran riot at the tricky Chepauk track and accounted for the dismissals of Prerak Mankad (3), Ayush Badoni (1), Nicholas Pooran (0), Ravi Bishnoi (3), and Mohsin Khan (0). He got into the act of sending LSG batters back to the dugout on the fifth ball of his first and sealed the deal by removing Mohsin on the third ball of his last over and the team’s 17th.
After Madhwal shattered Mohsin’s stumps to complete the formality of Mumbai’s win over LSG, MI’s dugout burst into celebration, and the team’s owner Nita Ambani and her son Akash Ambani , who were present at the stadium, were seen celebrating the team’s triumph, the video of which is now going viral on the internet.

After getting the better of LSG in the first knockout match of IPL 2023, MI will now face defending champions Gujarat Titans in the second qualifier match on Friday (May 26) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The winner of this upcoming match will then face MS Dhoni’s CSK in the final of the IPL 2023 on Sunday (May 28) in Ahmedabad.
